Childrens
Services
During a child’s first two years brain, body growth,
and development is the most rapid. It is critical to make
early identification of health and developmental concerns.
If you have concerns regarding your child’s development,
TradeWind’s team of specialists will identify your child’s
strengths and needs, and recommend a program for the child
and the family to enhance development.
TradeWind’s professionals have been providing services
for over thirty-seven years. We are the pioneers in combining
education and therapy to enhance all of your child’s
developmental needs, and empowering your family to help your
child to reach his/her full potential.
TradeWinds Children's Services is a holistic program that
provides a variety of service options to meet the individual
needs of children and their families. TradeWinds services
are designed to promote healthy development of children and
to strengthen family skills and knowledge. Together with parents,
we can help nurture their child's growth through everyday
activities

Departments
and Programs offered
The Literacy Initiative - The Literacy
Initiative is a new program that is in collaboration with
IUN. TradeWinds’ Little Treasures childcare center was
selected as one of eight Lake County partner centers to participate
in this curriculum. This program will play an integral role
in promoting literacy in our community. Our certified professional
Literacy Coaches will teach childcare, preschool, and early
childhood literacy and language, as well as inform parents
how literacy influences a child’s growth and development.
Parent as Teachers - The Parent as Teachers
(PAT) program is a national program designed to enhance a
child’s development and school achievement through parent
education. TradeWinds PAT educators will provide a comprehensive
program which offers parents a combination of personal visits,
group meetings, developmental screenings, and resource referrals.
The mission of PAT is to provide information, support, and
encouragement to parents in order to help their children develop
optimally during the vital early years of life. This new program
blends perfectly with the mission of TradeWinds Children’s
Services. Look for future announcements about this upcoming
program.
Therapy Services - Therapy
services are designed to help children, of all ages meet their
maximum potential in the areas they may be experiencing delay.
Therapy services include physical, occupational, developmental,
and speech. Services are offered in the home environment,
on an out-patient basis, or within our center-based programs
based on family choice.
Sensory Awareness Program
- TradeWinds’ Sensory Awareness Program is used to give
children and adults enrolled in therapy services a place to
use their eyes, ears, nose, hand, and bodies to explore the
environment around them. Those who experience the sensory
room activities will learn to attend, organize, and respond
appropriately to their environment.

Service Coordination - Service
Coordination is a program offered to families with special
needs children, from birth to three years of age, who are
enrolled in the state’s First Steps Program. Coordinators
serve as the single point of contact in helping families obtain
the services and assistance needed, as well as coordinate
home-based services across agency lines. Service Coordinators
make home visits as needed to help strengthen and supplement
the family’s skills in negotiating the system of services
available. We teach the families how to build skills that
will help them advocate for their children in and out of the
First Steps Program.
Little Treasures Childcare
- TradeWinds licensed childcare program, Little Treasures,
plays the key role in supporting our center-based therapy
services. Our childcare services offer a comprehensive program
that allows children who may need occupational, physical,
speech, and developmental therapy to receive these services
during their daily childcare visit while interacting with
children their own age. Children of all abilities participate
in activities involving community outings, guest presenters,
literacy programs, academic activities, computer exploration,
and socialization. Together the children learn self awareness,
acceptance, and tolerance.

A few words from our parents…
"We have had 3 foster children use the facility
at TradeWinds since 1998. We could not ask for a more concerned
and caring group of people to work with. All of our children
were developmentally delayed when they came into our lives.
Speech delays, physical and emotional limitations due to malnourishment
and neglect. Within a few short months at TradeWinds, the
children began to individually blossom in personality, speech,
growth and age appropriate development. We could not say enough
in praise and admiration for a job well done in their total
care received at TradeWinds."

"Twelve months ago Gabrielle arrived
at the center as a very small, underdeveloped pre-mature infant
attached to an monitor. Gabby began to receive therapy, and
childcare services, along with the support of a wonderful
staff at TradeWinds. When Gabby first started receiving services
many doctors told me that she may never walk, but with the
help of the staff and frustratingly long hours, Gabby is now
a walking, healthy, happy toddler."
